1. SCOPPATURA – or cutting of the cup. The shell (cornolian or sardonyx) is cut in the most roundish part
2. SEGNATURA – or making. In the interior the artist draws with a pencil the shape that will become the “canvas” for his “painting”
3. SAGOMATURA – or shaping. Each pieces singled out is cut with a cutter
4. AGGARBATURA – or moulding. Each piece’s edge is smoothed and rounded
5. SPIANATURA – or levelling. By using a solution mixed with wax and pitch, the piece obtained is mounted on a wooden stick and it is surface is levelled until the white layer beneath is reached, here the artist can at last sketch his future creation with a pencil
6. INCISIONE – or engraving. We have then come to the stage with the highest artistic content: with finer and finer iron tips (bulino) the artist gives shape to is masterpiece using mind, technique and heart
7. LUCIDATURA – or polishing. The cameo is finally cleaned and polished to amaze the final client and give him emotion.
Le fasi di lavorazione del Cammeo
La lavorazione avviene attraverso varie fasi:
1. SCOPPATURA – La conchiglia (corniola o sardonica viene tagliata nella sua parte più tondeggiante.
2. SEGNATURA – Nella parte interna l’artista segna con una matita la sagoma che diventerà la “tela” per il suo “dipinto”.
3. SAGOMATURA – Ogni singolo pezzo individuato viene tagliato con un seghetto.
4. AGGARBATURA – I bordi di ogni singolo pezzo vengono resi tondeggianti
5. SPIANATURA – Usando una soluzione frammista a pece e cera, il pezzo così ottenuto viene fissato ad un pezzo di legno e la sua superficie viene livellata fino a raggiungere lo strato bianco sottostante dove l’artista, finalmente, può abbozzare con una matita quella che sarà la sua creazione.
6. INCISIONE – Siamo quindi giunti alla fase a più alto contenuto artistico: con punte di ferro sempre più fini (Bulini) l’artigiano dà forma al suo capolavoro usando mente, tecnica e cuore.
7. LUCIDATURA – Il cammeo viene infine pulito e lucidato per stupire ed emozionare il cliente.
